STOP TRYING

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” – Proverbs 14:12
As human beings, we were all born into sin. And the Bible says that because of our sin, there is separation between sinful us and Holy God. But that hasn’t stopped us from TRYING to get to God, has it?
I see it all the time. Just the other day, I asked someone, “Would you consider yourself a Christian?” and their response was, “I’m trying my very best to become a Christian.” Humans have been TRYING to get to God for a really long time.
We try to be good people, and we try to make good choices. We try to give generously and serve faithfully and show up to church as often as we can. We try to have good marriages and to be good parents and we HOPE that at the end of our life, the good things will outweigh the bad things, and God will let us into heaven.
The only problem with the idea of TRYING is what we read in Proverbs 14:12 which says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
When you think about heaven being the desired destination of your heart. There are many ‘paths’ that seem like they should take us there, but Jesus told us there is only ONE PATH, ONE WAY to experience eternal life.
And it is not by TRYING. Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus is the only way. You can’t “try” your way to heaven. So stop trying. It won’t get you there. Instead, let God take the reigns. Jesus died for your sins. It’s not about trying. It is about recognizing that you can’t do it. Give your life to Him. It is the ONLY WAY.
