THE JOURNEY OF CHANGE

November 29, 2023

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2

Change is a journey, not a sprint. It doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a process that requires time and patience. In our fast-paced world, we often desire quick fixes and instant results, but true transformation takes time. Let’s explore this concept through a biblical example.

Think about the life of Peter, one of Jesus’ closest disciples. When Jesus called Peter to follow Him, Peter was a fisherman by trade. His life was centered around casting nets and catching fish. But Jesus had a greater plan for Peter.

Peter’s transformation didn’t happen instantly. It was a journey marked by highs and lows, moments of faith, and moments of doubt. One of the most notable instances is Peter’s denial of Jesus during His crucifixion. Peter, in fear for his own life, disowned the very person he had followed so closely.

But change was in progress. After Jesus’ resurrection and Peter’s encounter with the risen Lord, Peter’s life began to transform. He became a bold preacher of the gospel, and his leadership within the early church was instrumental. This transformation from a fisherman who denied Jesus to a fearless apostle took time.

In Romans 12:2, the apostle Paul encourages us not to conform to the world’s patterns but to be transformed by renewing our minds. This renewal doesn’t occur overnight; it’s a gradual process of aligning our thoughts and actions with God’s will.

Just like Peter, we all experience moments of growth and setbacks in our journey of change. We may stumble, make mistakes, and encounter challenges along the way. However, it’s essential to remember that change is a journey, not a destination.

As we seek to change and become more Christlike, let’s embrace the process. It’s okay to take one step at a time. God’s grace and love are with us every step of the way. Be patient with yourself, and trust that God is at work, molding and shaping you into the person He intends you to be.

So, if you find yourself frustrated by the pace of change, remember Peter’s journey and the transformative power of God’s grace. Change may take time, but it’s a journey worth embarking on, one that leads us closer to God’s perfect will for our lives.
