God's Standards

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." - Psalm 119:105

If you want to live a life where your behaviors agree with your beliefs, then it starts with what we have discussed over the last couple of days. That means immersing yourself in God’s Word and choosing Godly influences. But it doesn’t stop there. You must also live a life that aligns with God’s standards.

Living according to God's standards is not a one-time decision but a daily commitment to align our thoughts, actions, and desires with His will. Psalm 119:105 beautifully illustrates this journey: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." As followers of Christ, our lives are guided by His Word, which illuminates the way forward and directs our steps.

Aligning our lives with God's standards begins with a heart surrendered to Him. It's acknowledging His sovereignty and authority over every aspect of our lives. Romans 12:1-2 urges us, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

This transformation is ongoing and dynamic. It requires a daily renewal of our minds through prayer, Scripture reading, and seeking God's guidance. As we immerse ourselves in His Word, we gain clarity on His standards and discern His will more clearly.

Aligning our lives with God's standards involves making intentional choices that honor Him in every circumstance. It's choosing love over selfishness, forgiveness over bitterness, and humility over pride. Ephesians 5:1-2 encourages us, "Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

Yet, we are not alone in this journey. God equips us with His Spirit to empower and guide us daily. Galatians 5:16 reminds us, "So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." Through prayer and dependence on the Holy Spirit, we receive the strength to resist temptation and live in accordance with God's standards.

Commit each day to aligning your life with God's standards, seeking His guidance, and relying on His strength. Let your life reflect His love, grace, and truth to a world in need of His redeeming touch.
