Strengthen What Remains

“But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.” - Revelation 3:4

In His letter to the church at Sardis, Jesus issues a crucial command: strengthen what remains. This isn’t a one-time action but a continuous, ongoing effort. The original Greek emphasizes the need to keep on strengthening, indicating that this is a daily commitment. But who or what is to be strengthened?

Jesus is addressing those within the church who are still faithful, those who have not defiled their clothes. This isn’t about physical garments but rather spiritual purity. While many in Sardis claimed to be Christians, only a few had remained true to their faith and continued to serve the Lord with genuine devotion.

Strengthening your faith involves a few key actions. First, immerse yourself in God’s Word. Let Scripture be your guide and your foundation. Daily reading and meditation on the Bible will nourish your soul and provide the wisdom and strength you need to remain faithful.

Second, engage in prayer. Prayer is your direct line of communication with God. It’s where you can pour out your heart, seek His guidance, and find the courage to persevere. Make prayer a priority in your life, not just as a routine, but as a vital part of your relationship with God.

Third, surround yourself with other faithful believers. Fellowship with those who share your commitment to Christ will encourage you and help you stay accountable. Together, you can support and strengthen one another.

Lastly, actively serve others. Jesus calls us to love and serve those around us. Look for opportunities to demonstrate God’s love in practical ways. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, volunteering, or sharing your faith, serving others will keep your heart aligned with God’s purposes.

Keep on strengthening what remains. Don’t be discouraged by what others are doing or not doing. Focus on your own walk with the Lord. Jesus promises that those who remain faithful will walk with Him in victory. This is a reminder that your efforts are not in vain. Strengthen what remains and continue to live a life that honors God. Your faithfulness will not go unnoticed!
