The Shepherd Is Coming

“And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”- 1 Peter 5:4

Jesus is called our Good Shepherd, our Great Shepherd, and our Chief Shepherd. Each of these titles reveals something powerful about Him. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep. His death brought redemption and forgiveness. He’s the Great Shepherd who lives for His sheep, guiding and leading us today. But it’s His return that makes Him the Chief Shepherd, the one who will come back for His flock.

In John 14:1-3, Jesus promises, “I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” That’s not just a hopeful thought, it’s a guarantee. Jesus is coming back for you. He’s preparing a place for you even now, and when the time comes, He will return to bring you home. It’s His return that gives us hope for the future, no matter what we’re facing today.

The Psalms paint a beautiful picture of this. Psalm 22 points to the cross, answering the question of our past, “What about my sin?” It was dealt with at Calvary. Psalm 23 speaks to our present, showing us the Shepherd who leads and provides for us today.

But Psalm 24? That’s our future. It’s a glimpse of the King of Glory, the Chief Shepherd who will return to reign. Verses 7-10 declare, “Lift up your heads, O gates! … The King of glory shall come in.” The Chief Shepherd is coming back, and with Him comes victory over every enemy, healing for every disease, and the solution to every problem.

There’s a day coming when you’ll see Jesus face to face, in all His glory. Your worries and struggles will be gone, and you’ll receive the crown of glory that will never fade. So if today feels heavy, remember this: Jesus, your Chief Shepherd, is coming soon. And when He does, everything will be made right. Keep trusting in Him, because He’s preparing a future that’s greater than anything you can imagine.
