He Leaves The 99

“And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”- 1 Peter 5:4

Jesus, our Chief Shepherd, is coming soon, and He’s bringing more than just His presence, He’s bringing eternal rewards. Imagine a day when all your enemies are defeated, your sicknesses are healed, and your problems are solved.

That day is coming when Jesus returns, and He’s bringing with Him the rewards for those who have faithfully served Him. We are saved by faith, but we are rewarded by the works we do in obedience to Him.

In Ephesians 2:10, the apostle Paul writes, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” God has laid out a path for you, good works He planned long ago. It’s not enough to just wander through life; rewards come from obeying the Shepherd's voice and following His commands.

1 Corinthians 3:14 reminds us that “If anyone’s work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward.” So, what is the quality of your work? Are you listening to the Chief Shepherd’s voice and doing what He asks?

Sheep, if left alone, will graze the same area until it’s barren, walk the same paths until they create ruts, and pollute their own ground. They need a shepherd’s guidance and care to avoid destruction.

Without Jesus leading us, we are much the same. Isaiah 53:6 tells us, “We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way.” This is a picture of us without God’s direction; lost, wandering, and headed for trouble.

But the good news is that Jesus came to rescue us. He came to rewrite your story, taking it from one of sin and separation to one of redemption and hope. Psalm 23 begins with the powerful declaration, “The LORD is my shepherd; I have what I need.” When Jesus is your Shepherd, He provides everything you need; guidance, protection, and peace.

If you find yourself running from God today, know that Jesus leaves the 99 to go after the one. Maybe you’re that one, lost and in need of rescue. Jesus is ready to wrap His arms around you, to save, forgive, and make you His own. Will you surrender to Him today? Let Him lead you as your Shepherd and experience the abundant life He has for you.
