Love Does Not Control
"Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant." - 1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is not about control, but many people treat it that way. They believe that if someone loves them, they should belong to them. They should answer every call, respond to every text, and prioritize them above everything else. Love becomes less about care and more about possession.
That mindset leads to jealousy, paranoia, and insecurity. Instead of love being a source of peace, it becomes a source of anxiety. Instead of trust, there is suspicion. Instead of freedom, there is control. The moment someone does not meet an expectation, their love is questioned. The relationship becomes more about power than partnership.
But that is not love. That is fear disguised as love.
First Corinthians 13:4 makes it clear that love is patient and kind. It does not envy. It is not arrogant. True love does not demand ownership. It does not manipulate or force someone into submission. It does not keep a tight grip out of fear of losing. Love that comes from God brings freedom, not restriction.
If love makes you feel like you have to prove yourself constantly, that is not love. If it forces you to walk on eggshells to avoid upsetting someone, that is not love. If it leaves you exhausted instead of strengthened, it is not the love God designed.
Real love is not about possession. It is about trust. It allows room to grow, to breathe, and to flourish. The strongest love does not hold with a tight fist. It stands secure, knowing that real love is never about control. It is about choosing one another daily without force, without fear, and without conditions.
