A Safe Shelter
"The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night." - Psalm 121:5-6
When danger comes knocking on your doorstep, where do you run? The Bible says the Lord is your shelter and protector, but do you really trust Him as your safe place?
I learned something about shelter years ago when I decided to raise chickens. I wasn’t prepared, so I quickly threw together a little open-air space for them with some posts and chicken wire. I thought it would be enough. But I wasn’t thinking about all the animals that also love eating chicken. Hawks, coyotes, and raccoons proved to me that an unsecured shelter isn’t a shelter at all.
I thought those chickens were safe, but their shelter wasn’t secure. And it wasn’t long before predators were breaking in and attacking them. It taught me a valuable lesson. Just because you think you’re protected doesn’t mean you really are.
Now, think about your life. When danger comes your way, where do you run? Do you try to build your own shelter by relying on money, success, or the approval of others? The truth is none of those things can really protect you. They’re as flimsy as that open-air chicken coop I built.
The Bible says God is your true shelter. That word “protect” comes from the same root as “guardian.” It means God watches over you with constant activity and attention. He’s not passive. He’s not distant. He’s right by your side, providing shade and covering you when you need it most.
Are you running to the only true shelter, or are you trying to build your own? God is the only source of security you can fully trust. Let Him be the one who guards you and gives you the protection you truly need.
