When You Feel in Over Your Head

"So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days." - Nehemiah 6:15

Nehemiah was never supposed to be the guy who would build the city. He wasn’t a contractor. He wasn’t a general. He wasn’t a strategist or a builder. He was a cupbearer. His job was to serve drinks and stay quiet in the presence of royalty. And yet, when God gave him a vision, Nehemiah stepped into something so far beyond his resume that it had to be supernatural.

God didn’t just call Nehemiah to build a wall. He called him to lead people. To organize teams. To defend against enemies. To make real-time decisions under enormous pressure. Nehemiah was out of his league, but he wasn’t alone. God gave him the encouragement and strength he needed, exactly when he needed it.

Have you ever felt in over your head? Like you’re trying to be a parent or a spouse or a student or a leader, and deep down you’re thinking, I don’t know what I’m doing? That’s not failure. That’s the beginning of faith.

God loves using people who feel unqualified. He steps in and becomes the strength you don’t have. He reminds you that this mission you’re on is not about your credentials, it’s about His calling. He puts peace in your heart and courage in your spirit so you can keep going when you want to quit.

That’s what He did for Nehemiah. Every day, that wall got higher, and Nehemiah’s faith got stronger. Not because he was growing more confident in himself, but because he was growing more confident in his God.

If God has called you to something hard, don’t panic. You don’t have to be strong enough or smart enough or experienced enough. You just have to be willing. And when you step into His vision, He will meet you with the strength to stand and the encouragement to keep going. One brick at a time. One day at a time. And one miracle at a time.
