Celebrating Who You Are In Christ
"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" - 1 John 3:1
Take a moment to pause and reflect on the incredible journey of this week. You've discovered that you are chosen, beloved, free, new, wonderfully made, and personally known by God. This isn't just theology; this is your reality.
John uses the word "lavished" to describe God's love for us. The Greek word potapos means "what kind of" or "how great." John is expressing amazement at the extravagant nature of God's love. It's not just that God loves us; it's the overwhelming, abundant way He loves us.
The phrase "that we should be called children of God" shows that this relationship is almost too good to be true. Yet John immediately affirms, "And that is what we are!" This isn't wishful thinking or spiritual symbolism. You are literally, actually, truly a child of God.
This love and this identity are gifts that have been "lavished" on you. You didn't earn them, deserve them, or work for them. They are expressions of God's grace and goodness toward you.
Today is a day for celebration and worship. Create a list of all the truths about your identity in Christ that you've learned this week. Spend time thanking God for each one. Share these truths with someone else who needs to hear them. Let worship flow from your heart as you celebrate who you are in Him.
Prayer:
Father God, I am overwhelmed by the love You have lavished on me. Thank You for choosing me, adopting me, making me new, and calling me Your child. Help me to live confidently in this identity every day. When the world tries to define me differently, remind me of who I am in You. I worship You for Your amazing love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
