Identity And Mission

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." - 1 Peter 2:9

Your identity in Christ comes with a mission. You're not just saved from something; you're saved for something. Understanding who you are in Christ naturally leads to understanding what you're called to do for Christ.

Peter uses four powerful descriptions of believers' identity: chosen people, royal priesthood, holy nation, and God's special possession. Each of these speaks to both privilege and responsibility. You're chosen for a purpose, royal with responsibilities, holy with a calling, and special with a mission.

The purpose of this incredible identity is clear: "that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." You've been given this amazing identity so that you can tell others about the God who gives such incredible identity.

Your mission flows from your identity. Because you've been called out of darkness into light, you can help others make the same journey. Because you've experienced God's transforming love, you can share that love with others who need to experience it.

Consider how your identity in Christ connects to your mission for Christ. Who in your life needs to hear about the God who gives such incredible identity? Ask God for opportunities to share your story of being called from darkness into light, and be ready to tell others about His wonderful love.

Prayer:
Lord God, thank You for making me Your chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and Your special possession. Help me to understand that this identity comes with the mission to declare Your praises to others. Give me opportunities and courage to share with others how You called me from darkness into Your wonderful light. In Jesus' name, Amen.
