FIXING OUR EYES ON GOD IN MARRIAGE

“A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” – Ecclesiastes 4:12

Have you ever marveled at the strength of a cord of three strands? It’s a powerful image that goes beyond the beauty of two becoming one. In Ecclesiastes 4:12, we read, “A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” It’s a profound truth that God invites us to live out in our marriages.

You and your spouse, entwined in the unity of marriage, form the first two strands of the cord. But the third strand, the divine thread that adds strength and resilience, is God Himself. It’s an invitation to fix our eyes on Him, to pursue Him together in our marriage.

When two become one, it’s not a signal to turn inward and exclusively focus on each other. God, the third strand, beckons us to fix our gaze on Him. Pursuing God in our marriage is like infusing an extra layer of strength into the cord, making it unbreakable.

Here’s how we can pursue God together:

Seek Him in Prayer.
Prayer is the lifeline that connects us to God. Make it a habit to pray together as a couple. Share your hopes, dreams, and concerns with Him. Seek His guidance and wisdom as you navigate the journey of marriage.

Study His Word.
The Bible is a treasure trove of wisdom for every aspect of life, including marriage. Take time to read and study God’s Word together. Let it shape your perspectives, guide your decisions, and strengthen the foundation of your relationship.

Worship Together.
There’s something powerful about worshiping together. Whether it’s singing hymns, attending church services, or engaging in moments of personal worship, make space for God in your shared spiritual life.

Prioritize Spiritual Growth. Encourage each other in your individual walks with God. Support and challenge one another to grow spiritually. As you both draw closer to God individually, you’ll naturally draw closer to each other.

The beauty of a threefold cord is that it’s not just about surviving the storms; it’s about thriving in the midst of them. Fixing our eyes on God in marriage means we’re not solely relying on our strength but tapping into the unending strength and grace that come from Him.
