THE ETERNAL OR TEMPORAL?

“We don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” – 2 Corinthians 4:18

As we stated yesterday, the safest place you and I can be as believers in Christ is in the center of His will. No matter what He has called us to do, choosing radical obedience is always safer than the alternative.

I would rather be in a lion’s den with God than out of a lion’s den without God. Daniel walked by faith and lived a courageous life. How? By overcoming the fear of missing out…by overcoming the fear of people…and by overcoming the fear of radical obedience.
And you know what? We can do the same, today. We can be overcomers, and we can live courageous lives that walk by faith. But first, we must consider something important. What Daniel did that so many fail to do was choose the eternal over the temporal.

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “We don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”

Think about that today. We have the option of focusing on the present or on the future. When we think about the temporal, we are undermining the eternal. When we find ourselves overwhelmed with temporal doubts and fears and worries and shortcomings, we are not simultaneously thinking about the sovereignty of God or the fact that He is 100% in control.

But when we are focused on the fact that He is in control, and we think about the eternal, we are trusting in God. It allows us to live courageously in a way that is completely counter-cultural.

So, do you want to be different? Do you want to be courageous when no one else is? Be an overcomer. Obey Him and know the safest place you can be is in His will. And remember, it is the eternal that matters. Always choose the eternal over the temporal!
