The Dangers of Pornography

“I will set before my eyes no vile thing.” – Psalm 101:3

In the landscape of today’s digital age, the accessibility of pornography has reached unprecedented levels, posing a significant threat to the minds and hearts of the next generation. Psalm 101:3a encourages us to set before our eyes no vile thing, recognizing the importance of safeguarding our minds against the dangers of pornography.

Reflecting on the past, I recall a time when accessing explicit content was a challenging endeavor. However, in today’s hyper-connected world, statistics reveal a staggering reality. A shocking 93% of boys and 62% of girls are exposed to internet pornography before the age of 18. Even more concerning, 70% of boys have spent at least 30 consecutive minutes looking at online porn on at least one occasion, with 35% repeating this on at least 10 occasions.

The accessibility of explicit material is reshaping and rewiring the minds of our youth, influencing how they perceive relationships and the value of individuals. What many fail to realize is that pornography not only objectifies people but also distorts our ability to see others through God’s lens. It disrupts the sacredness of human connection and undermines the beauty of relationships designed by our Creator.

It is important that we educate them about the detrimental effects of pornography on the brain and its potential to skew their understanding of healthy relationships.

We must strive to give our youth the knowledge of God’s design for relationships. The transformative power of God’s Word can reshape minds and instill a deep understanding of the sanctity of human connection. Encourage them to guard their hearts and minds against the harmful influence of explicit content, empowering them to navigate the digital landscape with discernment.

As we confront the accessibility of pornography in this generation, let us stand firm on the foundation of Psalm 101:3. By setting before our eyes no vile thing, we safeguard our minds and those of our children, preserving the sacredness of relationships and upholding the principles of God’s design.
