IT IS FINISHED

October 15, 2022

“After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), ‘I thirst.’ A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to His mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished,’ and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” – John 19:28-30

We have depicted the days leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, as well as that day, in great detail. If you have followed along with us, you know the emotions Jesus felt before He was arrested and placed on the cross. You also know in detail the things He went through (though we will never know everything or how it actually felt).

But one thing we must not miss is even though Jesus did not want to die on the cross, it never separated Him from God. He was not at odds with His Father, and He knew what He had to do. There was never a separation between them, even when Jesus, in His flesh, was asking for a way out.

We remember in Gethsemane where we see how He was really struggling.  He said, “Father if it is possible, let that cup be passed by, but not My will, but Your will be done.” Well, get this, Jesus took that cup. Shortly after that, He lifted up a shout, a shout of victory. We know that Jesus will always have the final victory, and it was no different on the cross.

He said, “Tetelestai, it is finished.” And then He took His last breath and He died. And with that shout of victory, we know that His death was what cause the veil in the temple to be torn. We now have access to the Father because of the blood of Jesus.

He died that day, but not before giving us victory. It is FINISHED! Jesus got the final word. He died, He rose again, and He conquered death! It is finished! Jesus WAS, IS, and ALWAYS will be victorious!
