SERVING CHRIST

September 2, 2022

“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” – Luke 7:47

When you truly experience God, you should naturally want to serve Him. There is a story in Luke 7 where Jesus was reclining at the table with a woman who was known as a sinner. The Bible says that she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, dropped to her knees, and began washing Jesus’ feet with her tears.

As this story unfolded, the religious people of that day (the Pharisees) were watching the whole thing play out, and they rebuked Jesus, saying, “This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching Him— she’s a sinner!”
When religion deemed her hopeless, Jesus became her hope. You see, in this story, this despised woman…this sinful woman…was saved by Christ. And do you know what He said about her? Jesus said, “Those who’ve been forgiven much, love much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.”

When you truly experience God and are forgiven by God, you should naturally want to serve God. Have you been forgiven of much? If you’ve been forgiven of much, you should love much, and if you love much, you should serve the one who forgave you and the one who saved you.

The reality is that we all have sinned. Romans 3:23 says, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” We all fall short. Yet, if we are willing to admit our sins and repent of them, He is faithful to forgive us. He forgives us and offers us salvation.

After all that Christ has extended to us, should we not be eager to serve Him? Do you serve Christ on a regular basis? Is your priority in life to serve Christ and pursue His will? If not, you are living a life less than your absolute best. God is calling you to serve, but after all He has done, should we not be eager to serve His Will and His Kingdom?
