IN HIS IMAGE

April 2, 2023

“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” – Genesis 1:27

Has anyone ever told you that you look like your mom or dad? I’ve been hearing that my entire life. Growing up, people would tell me, “Jordan, you look just like your dad. You have his curly hair, and his same eyes and smile.” They’d tell me my mannerisms are similar and our walks were even the same.

Now that I have my own kids, people say the same thing, only this time it applies to my kids. People say, ”Man, your kids look just like you!” And I’ll be honest, when I look at my kids, I don’t see the resemblance at all, but it must be true because I hear it all the time.

We, as children, naturally inherit certain characteristics from our biological parents. That’s how human biology works—it’s DNA.

But you know, spiritual biology works differently. The Bible says in the book of Genesis (1:27) that we were all made in the image of God: “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” We are the Imago Dei, which means, to some extent, that everyone that’s ever been born resembles God in some way.

When you think about it, there’s no such thing as an ordinary person. We are valuable to God…we have worth…and our worth is connected to our creator.

C.S. Lewis once said, “You have never met a mere mortal.” And that is true. If God is great and important, and we are created in God’s image, then that means every person that has ever been created is important to God.

You were created in the image of your Heavenly Father. You are no ordinary person to Him. Next time you think you are anything less than the amazing creation of Almighty God, remember that you were made in His image, and thank Him for loving you and making you to be so much more than you deserve to be.
