RECALLING OUR RESCUE

August 11, 2023

“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.” – 1 Timothy 1:15

As we’ve discussed the past few days, pride builds a cage around us, blinding us to the reality of our own brokenness and need for salvation. To escape this cage, we must humbly recall the life that God has saved us from. We are all sinners, saved by His amazing grace. So as we look at the challenging encouragement found in today’s key verse, we are reminded that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and we acknowledge that we are among those who have been rescued.

Remembering our past and acknowledging our sinful nature is essential in breaking free from the grip of pride. It humbles us and reminds us that we are entirely dependent on God’s mercy and forgiveness. When we recall the life we have been saved from, our hearts are filled with gratitude, and pride loses its power over us.

We were lost in our sins, separated from God’s love and grace. Our pride blinded us to our need for a Savior. But God, in His unfathomable love, sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Through His sacrifice, we have been set free and given the gift of eternal life.

By recalling our rescue, we are reminded of the magnitude of God’s grace and the depth of His love for us. We realize that we have no reason to boast or exalt ourselves, for our salvation is not based on our own merit but solely on the finished work of Jesus Christ. It is by His grace alone that we have been saved.

When we understand the depths of our own sinfulness, it becomes impossible to remain prideful. We recognize that we are no better than anyone else and that we all stand on level ground at the foot of the cross. We become agents of humility and grace, extending the same love and forgiveness that God has shown us to those around us.

Remember the darkness and brokenness from which He rescued us. Embrace a humble posture, acknowledging our own need for His grace. And with grateful hearts, let us live in a way that glorifies God, walking in humility and extending His love to others.

In our journey of escaping the cage of pride, may we continually recall the life God has saved us from. May His grace humble us, transform us, and inspire us to live in a manner worthy of the salvation we have received.
