SET APART

January 12, 2023

“Even before He made the world, God loves us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes.” – Ephesians 1:4

As a believer, one who has given your life to God, you are SET APART. Paul says that those who are “in Christ” have been set apart “to be holy and without fault.” We’re set apart for a purpose, and that purpose is to reflect the holiness of God and the goodness of God to the world around us.

Ephesians 1:4 says, “Even before He made the world, God loves us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes.”

Now, people love to debate what Paul meant when he said, “God loves us and chose us in Christ…” and the truth is, we’re not told exactly who he was referring to. He most likely was referring to those who believed in Christ.

But the debate is always…did God choose us, or did we choose God? This is a great question…but let me give you a verse that may help clear that up for you today. Romans 3:11 says, “No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God.”

In other words, in order for us to be saved and to be “in Christ,” God had to make the first move. If you’re saved today, it’s because God met you at your point of need. He forgave your sins. He changed you from the inside out, and He gave you a new identity and a new purpose in Christ.

Many times, we read things like “He chose us” and it leads us to ask questions that Paul was never intending to address. Here is the bottom line…

Jesus came to save sinners. Jesus wants everyone to be saved. God makes the first move in every salvation story. Jesus came to set YOU apart for His glory. You have been blessed to be set apart by God!
