BUT HE WAS

June 15, 2023

“But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.” – 1 Corinthians 15:20

If you have been following along with us, over the last week we have looked at answering a question Paul addresses in 1 Corinthians 15. And that question is, what does it mean if Jesus wasn’t raised from the dead?

We discussed how our preaching is in vain. Our faith is in vain. We as believers, are all false witnesses. Our faith is worthless. We are still in debt for our sins. Those who died before us, we will never see again, because they are still dead. And we, of all people, should be pitied because our entire life mission is for nothing.

Those are the implications if Jesus died and was not resurrected. We celebrate Easter, not just because Jesus died for our sins, but because He was raised from the dead. He did what no one has done, He conquered death.

1 Corinthians 15:20 says, “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

All of that is true if He wasn’t resurrected. But He WAS. He WAS RESURRECTED. And He overcame death. And He will return to build heaven on earth one day. Everything God promised us in the Bible, will happen. Every promise He gave about what Jesus would, was fulfilled.

Jesus died. Jesus was buried. And Jesus was resurrected. And He will come back again, just as the Lord promises. That is why we celebrate Easter. The resurrection matters! Without it, all of it is for nothing. Our faith, our preaching, our witness, our life purpose, it’s all worthless.

But because Jesus died AND rose again, we have hope! And that is a hope that will not disappoint. We will be with Jesus one day in heaven. Thank Him today for dying for your sins. And thank Him for conquering death!
