REFOCUSING OUR IDENTITY

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” – Colossians 3:23
Yesterday, we talked about how if we want to break free from the stronghold of pride, we need to recall our rescue. However, that’s not all we have to do if we want to experience freedom from pride. We must also refocus our identity in Christ. Instead of living for the approval of people, we are called to work for the Lord. Colossians 3:23 reminds us to work at everything we do with all our hearts as if we were working for the Lord Himself.
Refocusing our identity in Christ liberates us from the constant need for validation and recognition. It redirects our motives, reminding us that our ultimate purpose is to bring glory to God and not ourselves. When we shift our focus from seeking human approval to desiring to honor God, pride loses its grip on our hearts.
In a world that often values external achievements and human accolades, our identity can become entangled with our worldly accomplishments. We may find ourselves constantly striving for success and seeking validation from others. However, this mindset only perpetuates pride and keeps us confined within its cage.
By refocusing our identity in Christ, we align our hearts with His purposes. We recognize that our true worth and significance come from being children of God, redeemed by His grace. We are called to work diligently and wholeheartedly, not to impress others, but to honor and glorify God in all that we do.
When we work for the Lord, our motivation shifts from seeking approval to serving with excellence. We realize that our efforts are not in vain, even if they go unnoticed by others. Our focus becomes pleasing God rather than gaining the applause of people. This mindset cultivates humility and allows us to experience the freedom that comes from living for an eternal audience.
In our journey of escaping the cage of pride, may we continually remind ourselves of Colossians 3:23 as it serves as a guiding principle, inspiring us to work with all our hearts, knowing that our ultimate reward comes from God.
