The Anticipation of the Greatest Gift
"And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life." - 1 John 2:25
Do you remember the joy of anticipation as a child? Whether it was a Christmas gift, a long-awaited vacation, or a surprise from your parents, the build-up to something amazing could feel almost unbearable. It wasn’t just about the gift, it was about the journey to uncover it, the clues along the way, and the realization that something incredible was coming.
When we gave our kids a trip to Disney World, we didn’t just hand it to them. We wrapped it in layers of boxes, created a scavenger hunt, and stretched out the suspense. Watching their excitement grow as they searched and discovered was almost as rewarding as the gift itself. Their joy didn’t come from how quickly they got the answer, it came from the journey and the promise of what was to come.
God often works in a similar way in our lives. He doesn’t always hand us the answers immediately. Instead, He allows us to walk through seasons of anticipation, where we’re unwrapping layers and uncovering His plans step by step. The book of Revelation reminds us of this. As Jesus breaks open each seal, a new layer of God’s ultimate plan is revealed. It’s not easy to watch. It’s full of war, destruction, and judgment, but each moment points to something greater, something beyond what we can imagine.
Like children searching for a gift, we often find ourselves asking why God doesn’t just give us everything now. Why the waiting? Why the struggle? The answer is found in the promise. God isn’t tormenting us. He’s preparing us. He’s building anticipation for the ultimate gift: eternal life with Him. Every moment of suspense, every layer of His plan, is leading us to something so incredible that it’s worth every second of the wait.
So when life feels like a scavenger hunt, remember that God is walking right behind you, encouraging you and reminding you of the joy that’s coming. The gift He has prepared is better than anything you can imagine. Trust the process. The anticipation will be worth it.
