Daily Dependence
"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." - John 15:5
It’s easy to fall into the habit of depending on God only when life feels like it’s spiraling out of control. When you face a crisis. Maybe it’s health issues, financial struggles, or a broken relationship. That is when you turn to Him, desperate for help. And while God is faithful to meet you in those moments, He desires so much more. He doesn’t want to be your last resort. He wants to be your daily source.
The truth is, whether you acknowledge it or not, you are always depending on Him. Every breath you take, every beat of your heart, and every blessing in your life comes from His hand. You didn’t create the air you breathe, the strength you have, or the opportunities you enjoy. God did. Yet how often do you take those things for granted, living as if you’re self-sufficient?
Jesus reminds us in John 15:5 that apart from Him, we can do nothing. He is the vine, the source of life, and we are the branches. Just as a branch cannot survive or bear fruit without the vine, you cannot thrive without depending on God. This isn’t just about turning to Him when everything is falling apart, it’s about abiding in Him every single day.
When you start to see life this way, it changes your perspective. You realize that every moment is an opportunity to lean on Him, to trust Him, and to thank Him. Dependence on God isn’t a weakness, it’s the greatest strength you can have. It’s recognizing that He is your provider, sustainer, and guide.
Don’t wait for a crisis to depend on Him. Depend on Him when things are going well, when your life feels steady, and when blessings are abundant. Make it a habit to acknowledge His presence and His provision in your daily life. Start today by thanking Him for the things you might have taken for granted. The more you depend on Him, the more you’ll see His hand at work in every area of your life.
