Step 2: Pursue His Presence
"Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near." - Philippians 4:5
Step two in our journey toward a healthy thought life centers around a powerful truth: the Lord is near. That phrase changes everything. When your mind feels cluttered with anxiety or stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, one of the greatest things you can do is stop and remember that God is not far away. He is right here.
Jesus came to earth as Immanuel, which means “God with us.” He did not come just to rescue us from tough times. He came to walk with us through them. In John 16:33, He said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” He never promised a trouble-free life, but He did promise His nearness in every part of it.
When your thoughts spiral and your perspective darkens, you have a choice. You can stay in that place, or you can pursue the presence of God. When you seek Him, He meets you right where you are. And something powerful happens in that moment. His presence begins to change your perspective. His peace starts replacing your panic. His truth quiets the lies. His thoughts begin to shape your thoughts.
Romans 12:2 says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” That transformation begins when you intentionally turn your attention to Him and invite Him into your thought life.
How do you do that practically? Start with prayer. Open His Word. Play worship music. Speak Scripture out loud. Get quiet and just sit with Him. When you pursue His presence, you’ll discover that He has already drawn near. And in that closeness, He begins the work of renewing your mind and restoring your peace.
If you want a healthy thought life, this step cannot be skipped. Pursue the presence of God. Let His nearness steady your spirit and renew the way you think.
