Not Ashamed

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.” — Romans 1:16-17 (CSB)

On this day in 1517, a German monk named Martin Luther nailed a list of arguments to a church door in Wittenberg. He wasn't trying to start a movement. He was a man who could not get free of a question: how could someone like him ever stand righteous before a holy God?

He found his answer in the verse above. The righteous will live by faith. Not by effort. Not by paying for it. Not by being religious enough for long enough. By faith in what Jesus already did. That single line reshaped the course of history, and more importantly, it's the reason you can stand before God at all.

We've spent this month on hope. On anchors, on endurance, on running the middle miles, on carrying each other. Today we land on the foundation all of it rests on. Every bit of the hope we've talked about is only as good as the gospel underneath it.

And look at Paul's word for it. Power. The gospel isn't good advice for improving your life. It's the power of God for salvation, and it is available to everyone who believes. There's no other entrance and there's no waiting list.

So as October closes, let me ask the most important question of the month. Have you ever personally trusted Christ? Not attended church, not admired Jesus, not grown up around it. Trusted Him. Because everything we've said about hope this month belongs to people who have, and it's yours the moment you do.

I AM NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL. Neither was Luther. Neither was Paul. Don't you be either.

If you've never trusted Christ, today is the day. Tell Him you believe and ask Him to save you. And if you have, name one person you'll tell before this year ends. You can carry the best news in the world quietly, or you can say it out loud. Which one is worth your one life?

Prayer
Almighty God, thank You that I'm made right with You by faith and not by anything I could earn. Thank You for a gospel powerful enough to save anyone who believes. Forgive me for the times I've been quiet about it. Give me courage to speak, and let this next season of my life be marked by a faith I'm not ashamed of. In Jesus' name, Amen.
