CULTIVATING GROWTH IN MARRIAGE

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 3:18

Allow me to take you on a journey down memory lane. When I was 18 years old, I was a certain height. Most of you probably stopped growing taller around that age too. However, the fascinating truth is that physical growth isn’t the only growth we experience in this journey of life.

Intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, the development continues. Our brains keep expanding, our hearts keep maturing, and our souls keep evolving. It’s a testament to the intricate design of our Creator. Yet, for these areas to align with God’s plan, intentional cultivation of growth is essential.

Likewise, in the realm of marriage, growth doesn’t happen automatically. It requires intentional steps and a purposeful commitment to cultivate development in a manner that honors God. What are some of these steps?

  1. Read the Bible: Just as we feed our physical bodies to sustain growth, feeding our spiritual selves with the Word of God is crucial. The Bible is not just a guide for life but a manual for cultivating a God-honoring marriage. It provides wisdom, principles, and a roadmap for navigating the intricate dance of matrimony.
  2. Love God with All Your Heart: The foundation of any growth, especially in marriage, rests on our love for God. It’s the compass that points us in the right direction. When we prioritize our relationship with God, we find the strength and wisdom needed to navigate the complexities of marriage.
  3. Engage in a Bible-Believing Community: Surrounding ourselves with a community that shares our values and beliefs is instrumental in our growth journey. In the context of marriage, being part of a Bible-believing community provides support, encouragement, and a space for shared wisdom.

Intentional growth doesn’t happen by chance. It’s a purposeful decision to align our lives, individually and collectively, with the principles laid out in God’s Word. As we strive to grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, we lay a foundation for the growth of our marriages.

Dear friends, let’s heed the call of 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” In doing so, may our marriages flourish, reflecting the beauty of intentional, God-honoring growth.
