When the Valley Produces Victory
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28
Suffering never feels good. Pain doesn’t make sense in the moment. And none of us would willingly sign up for the hard seasons that shake our world. But one of the clearest truths in God’s Word is that while He is not the author of evil or suffering, He is the expert in bringing good out of it.
Romans 8:28 isn’t a blanket promise to every person on the planet. It’s a promise to those who love God and are living for Him. It’s a reminder that no matter how broken your story feels today, God is still at work in the middle of it. He doesn’t waste suffering. He uses it.
I was talking to my dad not long ago, and he shared something that left a mark on me. He said, “The closest I’ve ever felt to God in my life… were the days I was in the hospital battling throat cancer.” That season changed him. It shaped the kind of man, pastor, and follower of Jesus he is today. And while no one would ever wish for that kind of suffering, he would also tell you, God used it for good.
That’s how God works. He takes the very seasons we run from… and He meets us there. He uses the pain we hate… to produce something we need.
The story of Joseph in the Old Testament proves this. He was betrayed, enslaved, falsely accused, and imprisoned. For years, it looked like God had forgotten him. But when the time was right, God raised him up. And when Joseph faced the brothers who had sold him, he said, “You planned evil against me; God planned it for good.”
You may not understand what God is doing right now. But if you love Him and are walking with Him, His Word assures you, He’s not finished. That pain you’re walking through today may be the very soil where your future breakthrough is growing.
So trust Him. You may not see the good yet, but the promise still stands. God can and will bring beauty from the ashes. Let that give you hope to keep going today.
