GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8
 
In the fast-paced world we live in, the choices we make about what we consume have a profound impact on our thoughts, actions, and ultimately, our character. Philippians 4:8 encourages us to focus on the positive and uplifting things in life. What we put into our minds significantly influences what we live out.

The principle “garbage in, garbage out” is a simple but profound truth. What we consume through our eyes, ears, and experiences shapes our perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors. If we want to avoid falling into the sins and temptations we discussed in recent devotions, it all begins with what we allow into our minds.

Watching, listening to, or participating in things that promote sin, negativity, or immoral behavior can desensitize us to these issues and lead us down a dangerous path. On the other hand, choosing media, friendships, and activities that reflect the qualities mentioned in Philippians 4:8 helps us develop a more Christ-like character.
 
To live out a life that reflects the love, purity, and holiness of Christ, we must be discerning about what we consume. This means being intentional about the books we read, the movies we watch, the music we listen to, and the company we keep. It means filling our minds with God’s Word and seeking fellowship with those who encourage our spiritual growth.

Furthermore, as we engage with the world around us, we can become agents of positive influence. Our choices to consume and share uplifting content and our willingness to be a light in the darkness can impact others, drawing them closer to Christ.
 
The principle “garbage in, garbage out” reminds us of the profound connection between our input and our output. If we desire to live lives that honor God and avoid the pitfalls of sin, we must be diligent in guarding what we consume and purposeful in cultivating a mind filled with what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy.
