Remembering Jesus

"In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.'" - 1 Corinthians 11:25

Today, let's take a moment to reflect on the significance of observing the Lord's Supper. It's not just a routine part of our church service; it's a profound act of remembrance. Taking the Lord’s supper should be a time of remembering Jesus.

When Jesus sat with his disciples in the upper room, he knew what lay ahead. Yet, in the midst of impending trials, he chose to institute the Lord's Supper. As he broke the bread and shared the cup, he instructed his followers to do so in remembrance of him.
Why is this act of remembrance so crucial?

Firstly, it keeps us grounded in the reality of Jesus' sacrifice. In the busyness of life, it's easy to forget the enormity of what Jesus endured on the cross. But when we partake in the bread and the cup, we are reminded of his broken body and shed blood, symbols of his ultimate act of love.

Secondly, it fosters gratitude in our hearts. As we reflect on the depth of Jesus' sacrifice, we can't help but be grateful for his grace and mercy. The Lord's Supper becomes a tangible expression of our thankfulness for salvation through Christ.

Thirdly, it strengthens our faith. Remembering Jesus' sacrifice strengthens our resolve to follow him wholeheartedly. It reaffirms our commitment to live lives worthy of the gospel and inspires us to walk in obedience to his teachings.

Lastly, it unites us as the body of Christ. When we partake in the Lord's Supper together, we do so as a community of believers, bound together by our shared faith in Jesus. It's a beautiful picture of our unity in Christ and our participation in the new covenant sealed by his blood.

Let's take time today to remember Jesus, not just with our minds, but with every fiber of our being. When is the last time you have taken the Lord’s Supper? Remember it is not just a tradition or ritual we should partake in. It is an active way of remembering Jesus and what He did for us on the cross.
