I Am Redeemed

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace." — Ephesians 1:7

One significant spiritual blessing we experience "in Christ" is our redemption. The concept of being redeemed refers to the act of buying something out of the market, and in biblical terms, it paints the picture of a slave market. Because of the sins in our lives, we were once prisoners, slaves with a debt so large we were unable to break free on our own.

But through His redemption, God has reversed the curse of our sin, restored us, forgiven us, and set us free. He adopted us with His own blood, erasing our sin debt, breaking the chains that prevented our freedom, and calling us His sons and daughters. This is the essence of redemption.

1 Peter 1:18-19 reminds us, "For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb." We were not redeemed with mere earthly treasures but with the precious blood of Jesus. The cost of our freedom was the life of Christ, given willingly out of love.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us, "You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body." Knowing that we were bought at such a high price, we are called to live lives that honor God, reflecting the freedom and grace we've received.

It’s important to understand that God didn’t redeem us out of pity. He redeemed us out of love. He saw our condition, bound by sin and unable to help ourselves, and He chose to intervene. His love drove Him to pay the ultimate price so that we could be free.

Remember that you are no longer a slave to sin, but a cherished child of God. You have been bought with the precious blood of Jesus, set free to live a life that glorifies Him. Claim your new identity and walk in the freedom that comes from being redeemed by the love of Christ.
