Retention Over Outreach

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” - Matthew 28:19-20

Are you more concerned with maintaining your current circle of friends or preserving the status quo in your personal life than with reaching out to those who might need to hear about Jesus? Maybe you’re hesitant to step out of your comfort zone to share your faith or help someone in need.

It’s natural to want to maintain the things we have. Whether it’s relationships, achievements, or comforts, there’s a certain security in keeping what’s familiar. However, when our focus shifts solely to holding onto what we have rather than reaching out and growing, we risk missing out on the broader call God has for us.

Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19-20, known as the Great Commission, is clear: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” This directive is not just for churches or organizations; it’s a call for each of us as individuals. But sometimes, our focus becomes more about retaining our current comforts and relationships than about reaching out to others with the message of Christ.

It’s easy to get comfortable with the people and routines that surround us. We invest time and energy in preserving these relationships and maintaining our comfort. However, Jesus calls us to a greater purpose—one that involves actively seeking out and impacting the lives of others.

Reaching out might require stepping out of your comfort zone. It could mean initiating conversations about faith, offering support to someone going through a tough time, or getting involved in community activities that provide opportunities to witness. The Great Commission calls us to be proactive in sharing the message of Christ, not just preserving our own comfort zones.

Remember, fulfilling the Great Commission is not just about making new converts; it’s about living out a life that reflects Christ’s love and grace in every interaction. By prioritizing outreach and engagement, you align yourself with the heart of Jesus and participate in His mission to reach the world.

Embrace the challenge today to move beyond your comfort zone and actively seek opportunities to share your faith and impact others’ lives. In doing so, you will fulfill your calling and make a difference that extends far beyond your immediate circle.
