A Moment of Mercy

"The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." - 2 Peter 3:9

Have you ever paused to think about what mercy really means? Mercy is an unearned opportunity, a moment when judgment is paused to give you another chance to turn toward God. In Revelation 10, we see a vivid example of mercy in action.

John describes a mighty angel, standing with one foot on the sea and one on the land, holding a little scroll. This angel, wrapped in a cloud with a rainbow over his head, declares that the mystery of God will soon be completed. It’s a moment filled with power and significance, yet within it lies a pause, a chance for people to repent before God’s final judgment unfolds.

This pause is a reminder of God’s incredible mercy. He is not obligated to give anyone another chance, yet He does because His heart longs for all to come to repentance. Even in the midst of Revelation’s terrifying judgments, God is still reaching out, offering an unearned opportunity for salvation.

What does this mean for you? It means that every breath you take is a gift of mercy. It’s a chance to turn away from sin, draw closer to God, and align your life with His will. None of us deserve it, but God gives it freely because of His love for us.

But mercy isn’t just about receiving, it’s also about responding. Are there areas in your life where you’ve been resisting God’s call? Are you putting off repentance, assuming there will always be more time? The truth is none of us know how many pauses of mercy we’ll be given. Don’t waste the opportunity He’s giving you today.
