"The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps." - Proverbs 14:15
In our information-saturated age, this ancient wisdom feels remarkably relevant. We're constantly bombarded with claims, opinions, and "facts" from countless sources. Social media, news outlets, friends, and even religious leaders all compete for our attention and agreement. The simple person accepts whatever sounds appealing or confirms their existing beliefs, but the wise person carefully evaluates what they hear.
The word "simple" here doesn't refer to someone with limited intelligence, but rather to someone who is naive or gullible. They lack the discernment to distinguish between truth and error, between what's helpful and what's harmful. They're easily swayed by the latest trend or the most persuasive speaker.
