He Who Promised Is Faithful

“Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23 (CSB)

There's an old-fashioned phrase my grandparents' generation used about a certain kind of person. They'd say, "His word is good." It meant you didn't need a contract. You didn't need a deposit. If he said he'd be there Saturday morning, you could go ahead and plan your Saturday around it.

We close out this first week on the one truth everything else has been standing on. God's word is good. He who promised is faithful.

Look at the order in that verse, because it matters. Hold on to your hope without wavering, since He is faithful. The stability doesn't come from your grip. It comes from His character. That's a relief, because if this depended on how tightly you could hold on, most of us would have let go years ago.

Consider His track record. He told Abraham he'd have a son when Abraham was old enough to laugh about it, and Isaac was born. He told a nation of slaves He'd bring them out of Egypt, and He parted the sea to do it.

He told a broken world through the prophets that a Savior was coming, and Bethlehem happened. He told His disciples He would rise on the third day, and on the third day the stone was rolled away. Every single promise He has ever made, He has kept. HIS RECORD IS PERFECT.

That same God has committed Himself to you. Not to your comfort, He never promised that. To you. To your good, to your growth, and to your future with Him.

So worship is the only sensible response. Not because everything in your life is working, but because He is who He says He is. The anchor doesn't hold because you're strong. It holds because it's set in Him.

Write down three ways God has already proven faithful to you this year. Then say them out loud. You can spend today rehearsing what's wrong, or rehearsing what He's already done. One of those grows fear, and one grows faith.

Prayer
Faithful God, I waver but You never do. I doubt but Your promises never fail. Thank You that my security rests on Your character and not on the strength of my grip. Today I'm choosing to hold on to my hope and to say out loud that You are faithful. Let my praise be louder than my worry. In Jesus' name, Amen.
