Your Help Comes from the Lord
"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." - Psalm 121:1-2
When life knocks you down, who are you looking to for help? That’s what David was asking in Psalm 121. He said, “I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from?” That’s not just a random question. It’s a question of security and hope.
When you feel desperate and overwhelmed, where do your eyes go? What’s your safety net when everything starts to fall apart? Is it your own strength? Your bank account? The people around you? What do you really count on when life gets hard?
I read a story about the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. During the first phase, there were no safety precautions in place, and 23 men lost their lives. But in the final phase, they installed a massive safety net, and it saved at least 10 men from certain death. Even more interesting was the fact that productivity increased by 25% after the net was installed.
Why? Because the workers had security. They knew that even if they fell, there was something there to catch them. They could work with confidence because their safety was no longer in question.
So here’s the question for you. If you were to fall today, who or what would you count on to catch you? Is your security something temporary or something eternal?
The world offers all kinds of false securities: money, status, relationships, and even your own abilities. But none of those things can truly catch you when you fall. Only Jesus can do that. He’s the only safety net that never fails.
Now ask yourself, where am I placing my trust? Am I looking to the mountains, or am I looking to the One who made them? Make sure your help comes from the Lord. He’s the only source of real security.
