The Only True Source of Security

"My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." - Psalm 121:2

We all have things we run to for security. For some, it’s money. You feel safe because your bank account is full and you believe those dollars will catch you if you fall. For others, it’s relationships. As long as you have certain people in your life, you feel like everything will be okay. Or maybe your sense of security comes from the precautions you take to stay safe in a dangerous world.

The truth is some of those things can bring temporary comfort and protection. But none of them can offer real, lasting security. Why? Because none of those things are God.

The Psalmist makes it clear where true help comes from. He says, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” That’s not just a nice thought. It’s a powerful truth. Only God can fulfill the role of God in your life.

Anything else you try to place your trust in will eventually fail you. Money can be lost. Relationships can be broken. Safety measures can fall short. But God never fails. He’s the One who created everything. He’s the only One who can truly protect you, provide for you, and be your firm foundation when life feels unstable.

When you place your trust in something other than God, you’re putting your hope in a little “g” god that can never be what you need. It might work for a while. It might give you some comfort. But it’s not the real thing.

If you’ve been putting your hope in anything other than the Creator of everything, it’s time to make a change. Stop letting little “g” gods try to do what only the “big G” God can do. Put your trust in the One who made you, knows you, and promises to be your help forever.
