YOUR FAITH IS WORTHLESS
“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.” – 1 Corinthians 15:17
Do you know what a worthless faith is? It is having faith in something that is not alive forever. If your faith is in a statue or a monument, you have a dead faith. If your faith is in your job or your income or your possessions on earth, you have a worthless faith. If your faith is in a person or a relationship, your faith is worth nothing and will get you nowhere.
And in the same way, if your faith is in Jesus, and Jesus didn’t rise from the grave. Paul would say, you don’t have a saving faith or a sustaining faith, or a sanctifying faith. You have a worthless faith. Because faith in something that isn’t alive forever is a dead faith.
1 Corinthians 15:17 says, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.”
Listen, we have been discussing this question of what it would mean if Jesus didn’t do what He said He would do. We’ve asked, what would it mean if Jesus wasn’t resurrected from the dead?
As we have looked at the last few days, it would mean that our preaching is in vain, our faith is in vain, we are all false witnesses, and our faith is WORTHLESS.
That is the bottom line. What separates our faith from every other religion, is that Jesus did what He said He would do, and that He rose from the dead. Jesus predicted and pulled off His own death, burial, and resurrection.
Our faith is not worthless, because He kept His word. There are many people who “believe” in something. They “believe” in a religion or deity, but if you asked them how confident they are when they die that they are right, there are so many people who aren’t fully confident.
For you and me, confidence doesn’t even do it justice. We are CERTAIN, UNDOUBTING, and SECURE in knowing that our faith will be justified when Christ returns. He already assured us His word is true when He was resurrected. He will always keep HIs word. That you can count on.
