HOW DO I WAIT?

April 16, 2023

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!” – Psalm 37:7

We have spent a lot of time the last few days talking about the faithfulness of God. If you have been following along with us, you know that God is a God of promise, that He makes promises and He keeps those promises.

If God said He would do something, He will do it. We can wait with hope knowing His promises will be fulfilled. But as we wait, what do we do? In other words, “Pastor, HOW do I wait?” This is a great question. So to answer that question, I want to give you three thoughts on how you should wait:

First, you should wait QUIETLY. Psalm 62:8 says, “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge to us.” God wants you to pour out your heart to Him but to do so in private. Just you and Him. Don’t announce what you are waiting for or what God is going to do in your life. Wait quietly for Him to act.

Next, wait PATIENTLY. Psalm 130:5 says, “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I hope.” Place your hope in the Word of God. He says it…He means it. It is done. You can claim and know God’s promise is yours. It is just a matter of time. Wait patiently for God to deliver you.

Finally, wait EXPECTANTLY. Psalm 37:7 says, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!” God wants you to wait with expectation, knowing that He will do all that He has promised.

Waiting on God is not passive, but active. God wants you to wait quietly, patiently, and expectantly. He will deliver you in His time. In the meantime, I’d encourage you to wait in these three ways as you wait on God.
