STILL IN SIN

“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.” – 1 Corinthians 15:17
As we continue to unpack the question of what it would mean for us Christians, had Jesus not been resurrected… we come to 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.”
Not only would our faith be worthless, but we would still be in our sins. What does that mean? Well, it means that if Jesus stayed in the grave, then God didn’t accept the payment for your sins. And if God didn’t accept the payment for your sins, then you still have a debt that hasn’t been paid and can’t be paid.
What it means is you are still responsible for your sins. And with that responsibility falling on your shoulders, that means you have no hope for forgiveness. You will be eternally separated from God in a real place called Hell.
When God raised Jesus from the grave, it was proof that the full payment for your sins had been paid and accepted. That is the reason Paul says in Romans 4:25, “He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.”
What that means is that Jesus died for our sins. But notice, His death wasn’t enough. His death was incomplete until God raised Him from the dead. That is what it means when He says, “He was delivered up for our trespasses (our offenses) and raised for our justification.”
Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there would be no hope of heaven. That fact that Jesus died for you isn’t that important unless He also rose again from the dead. That was God’s divine stamp of approval indicating He accepted once and for all, the full payment of your sin.
Without the resurrection, you still are in debt for your sin. A debt you can’t pay. Aren’t you thankful Jesus took that dept upon Himself? Not just that He died for you, but that He rose again to complete the payment in full!
