Eternal Over Temporary
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." - 2 Corinthians 4:18
When making decisions it can be easy to get caught up in the here and now—the temporary concerns and fleeting pleasures that surround us. But as followers of Christ, we're called to a higher perspective, one that prioritizes the eternal over the temporary.
Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:18 that while the things we see may seem urgent and pressing, they're ultimately temporary. The worries, fears, and struggles of today will fade away in the grand scheme of eternity. But what is unseen—the eternal promises of God—will endure forever.
When we're faced with decisions, big or small, it's crucial to consider their eternal significance. Will this choice lead us closer to God and His eternal kingdom, or will it simply satisfy a temporary desire or need?
Choosing the eternal path isn't always easy. It means stepping away from the crowd, resisting the pull of instant gratification, and embracing a countercultural mindset. But when we prioritize the eternal over the temporary, we're aligning ourselves with God's perfect plan for our lives.
Think about it this way: when we're consumed by temporal worries and doubts, we're not fully trusting in God's sovereignty and provision. But when we fix our eyes on the eternal truths of His Word, it empowers us to live courageously, knowing that He is in control and His promises are true.
Seek God's wisdom and guidance in all you do, knowing that His ways are higher than ours and His plans are for our good. When we prioritize the eternal, we're investing in a future that far surpasses anything the temporary world has to offer.
