Fellowship

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:9-12

As we continue our journey through the secrets of sacrifice, we arrive at the fourth flesh hook: Fellowship. If you’re just joining us, we’ve explored the significance of Lordship, Membership, and Stewardship in presenting ourselves as living sacrifices to God. Now, let’s look at the essential role of fellowship in this sacrificial living.

In Romans 12:9-12, Paul provides practical instructions for maintaining fellowship within the body of Christ. He emphasizes the importance of sincere love, genuine devotion, and mutual honor among believers. This fellowship is not merely a casual association but a deep and meaningful connection rooted in Christ’s love.

Paul admonishes us to love sincerely, letting go of evil and clinging to goodness. This genuine love extends beyond words to action, as we demonstrate devotion to one another and prioritize the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

In the context of fellowship, Paul highlights three essential practices that strengthen our sacrificial living:

  1. Rejoicing in hope: Despite the challenges and trials we may face, we find joy in the hope we have in Christ. Our confidence in God’s promises sustains us and fills us with anticipation for the future.
  2. Enduring in suffering: As members of the body of Christ, we are not exempt from hardships or afflictions. Yet, we persevere in faith, trusting in God’s faithfulness and His sustaining grace during times of trial.
  3. Persisting in prayer: Prayer is the lifeblood of our fellowship with God and one another. Through prayer, we commune with our Heavenly Father, intercede for one another, and seek His guidance and provision in all circumstances.

Fellowship plays a vital role in our sacrificial living as believers. Through fellowship, we show unity, mutual support, and spiritual growth within the body of Christ. As we engage in acts of love, service, and prayer, we remain firmly rooted in the center of God’s altar, offering ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to Him.
