Embracing Your True Identity

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” – 1 Peter 2:9-10

We have spent a lot of time talking about our identity and what that should look like. Peter does a remarkable job of showing us what it means to live “in Christ.” He tells us that we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s possession.

This powerful declaration reveals our true identity in Christ. However, you might think, “I don’t feel set apart by God or loved by Him. I don’t feel very royal today!”

Feelings can be deceptive. They often fluctuate based on our circumstances, moods, and perceptions. But the truth of who you are in Christ does not change. God’s Word declares that you are chosen, royal, and holy.

Peter emphasizes that once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people. You had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. This transformation is not based on your feelings or actions but on God’s grace and love. He called you out of darkness into His marvelous light, not because of what you have done, but because of who He is.

When you feel unworthy or unloved, remind yourself of these truths. You are chosen by God. He picked you, not because of your merits, but because of His immense love for you.
Your identity in Christ is a gift of grace. It’s not something you earn but something you receive. This identity shapes how you live, think, and act. When you embrace who God says you are, it transforms your perspective. You start living with a purpose, knowing you belong to God and are called to proclaim His praises.

Remember, it’s not about how you feel. It’s about the truth of God’s Word. Even on days when you don’t feel particularly royal or set apart, the reality remains: you are God’s beloved, chosen for a special purpose. Let this truth sink into your heart and shape your identity.

It’s time to live as the chosen, royal, and holy person God has declared you to be. When you stand firm in who you are in Christ, your life becomes a testimony of His grace and mercy.
