Living in the Light

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." - John 8:12

A young boy once toured Europe with his parents, visiting many of the great old cathedrals. He was mesmerized by the massive stained-glass portraits of the disciples and other saints. Upon returning home, his Sunday School teacher asked him about his trip.

Reflecting on his favorite part, he said, "I loved the stained glass windows with the images of the saints." His teacher then asked, "And what exactly is a saint?" The boy thought back to those beautiful windows and replied, "A saint is a person that the light shines through."

This simple yet profound definition captures the essence of what it means to be a saint. As believers, we are people who have been changed and redefined by God, allowing His light to shine through us. We have no light of our own; instead, we reflect the light of Jesus to a dark and dying world, much like the moon reflects the light of the sun.

Jesus transforms lives, and as He changes us, He illuminates us to be light in the darkness. He said in John 8:12, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." When we follow Jesus, we step out of darkness and into His marvelous light. This transformation is not just about a change in behavior but a shift in our very nature and identity.

Living as saints means living in the light of Christ. It means our lives should reflect His love, grace, and truth. We are called to shine brightly, bringing hope and clarity to those around us who are still in darkness. Our actions, words, and attitudes should be like those stained-glass windows, letting the light of Jesus shine through us in vibrant and beautiful ways.

Know today that you no longer live in darkness but in the light of Christ. Let His light shine through you, illuminating the world around you with His love and truth. Embrace your identity as a reflector of His light and allow His presence to guide you in all you do.
