Step 3: Return
“Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.” - Revelation 2:5
Having remembered the times when we were closest to God and repented of the ways we’ve drifted, the next step is to return to Him wholeheartedly. This process of remembering, repenting, and returning is not just a spiritual exercise but a pathway to experiencing the abundant life God desires for us.
Returning to God means rekindling our relationship with Him as our first love. It’s about embracing His presence, His love, and His purposes for our lives. So, what does it look like to return to God?
When we return to God, we rediscover the intimacy we once had with Him. It’s like coming home to a place where we are fully known and deeply loved. We spend time in His presence, listening to His voice through prayer and Scripture, and allowing His Spirit to speak to our hearts.
Returning to God brings joy that surpasses circumstances. The burdens we carry seem lighter, and we find peace in His presence. Joy fills our hearts as we worship Him with thanksgiving and praise for His faithfulness and grace.
God has a unique plan and purpose for each of us. As we return to Him, we rediscover His calling on our lives. We eagerly seek to fulfill His purposes, using our gifts and talents to serve Him and others with love and humility.
Our relationship with God affects how we relate to others. Returning to Him often leads to reconciliation and healing in our relationships. We extend forgiveness and seek reconciliation where there is brokenness, reflecting God’s love and grace to those around us.
Returning to God strengthens our faith. We trust Him more deeply, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His promises. Our faith is bolstered as we see Him at work in our lives and in the lives of others.
It also realigns our priorities with His kingdom purposes. We prioritize eternal values over temporary pleasures, seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness in all that we do.
If you find yourself distant from God, remember that He is waiting with open arms for your return. Take the step to repent and turn back to Him. Embrace the benefits of returning to your first love—intimacy, joy, purpose, reconciled relationships, strengthened faith, and refocused priorities. Let His love reignite your passion and guide you into the abundant life He has prepared for you.
