Resisting Change

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” - Romans 12:2

Change can be uncomfortable. We often prefer the familiar, clinging to our routines and traditions because they feel safe and predictable. But what happens when our desire for comfort starts to hinder our spiritual growth?

In our walk with Christ, resisting change can be detrimental. When we prioritize traditions over transformation and comfort over growth, we miss out on the dynamic, life-changing work God wants to do in us. Paul’s exhortation in Romans 12:2 challenges us to embrace transformation: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.”

Think about your own life. Are there areas where you are resisting change? Perhaps God is calling you to step out in faith, to let go of old habits, or to embrace a new direction. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that keeping things the same is safer, but in reality, it can lead to stagnation.

Transformation requires a willingness to be uncomfortable. It means allowing God to shape and mold us, even when it’s difficult. It means being open to His leading, even when it takes us out of our comfort zone. The Israelites in the wilderness wanted to return to Egypt because it was familiar, even though God was leading them to the Promised Land. Are you holding onto your own "Egypt" because it feels safe?

Jesus didn’t call us to a life of complacency. He called us to follow Him, which often means embracing change and growth. Peter had to leave his fishing nets, Matthew had to leave his tax booth, and Paul had to leave his old life as a Pharisee. Each of these changes led to incredible transformation and growth.

Don’t let fear of change hold you back. Embrace the renewal of your mind that Paul talks about. Seek God’s will and be willing to step into the new things He has for you. Remember, growth often happens outside of our comfort zones.

God’s plans for you are good and perfect. Trust Him, let go of the familiar, and allow Him to lead you into a deeper, more vibrant relationship with Him. Transformation might be uncomfortable, but it’s through this process that we become more like Christ, experiencing the fullness of life He promises. Embrace change and watch how God works in and through you in ways you never imagined.
