Material Over Spiritual
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” - Matthew 6:33
In a world that often measures success by numbers and tangible achievements, it's easy to fall into the trap of prioritizing material growth over spiritual depth. We might focus on expanding our career, accumulating wealth, or enhancing our social status, thinking these will bring us fulfillment. But Jesus offers a different perspective: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Think about your own life. Are you more concerned with your bank account than your prayer life? Do you spend more time building your career than building your relationship with God? It’s a common struggle, but it’s one that can lead us away from the true source of fulfillment and joy.
Material success is not inherently wrong, but when it becomes our primary focus, we miss out on the deeper, more meaningful growth that God desires for us. Jesus warns against storing up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and instead encourages us to store up treasures in heaven. Our spiritual growth, our faith, and our relationship with God are the treasures that truly matter.
Are you seeking first the kingdom of God, or have material pursuits taken the top spot in your life? It’s easy to get caught up in the tangible aspects of success, but these can never truly satisfy the longing in our hearts for a deeper connection with our Creator.
Spiritual growth requires intentionality. It means dedicating time to prayer, studying God’s Word, and cultivating a heart that seeks Him above all else. It means trusting that as we prioritize our relationship with God, He will take care of our needs.
Today, evaluate where you’re investing your time and energy. Are you more focused on material growth or on deepening your faith? Seek God first, and trust that He will provide for your needs. Allow Him to lead you into a richer, more fulfilling relationship with Him.
Let’s not let the pursuit of material success overshadow our spiritual journey. Remember, true fulfillment comes from seeking God and growing in our faith. Make it a priority to invest in your spiritual life, and watch how God works in and through you, providing abundantly as you trust in Him.
