The Narrow Truth

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” - Matthew 7:13-14

In a world that demands tolerance and acceptance of all viewpoints, standing firm in the truth of Jesus can feel incredibly challenging. Society often promotes the idea that all paths lead to the same destination, that all beliefs are equally valid. But as believers, we know that truth is not relative. Truth is narrow.

Think about it: 2+2 will always equal 4. Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit and boils at 212 degrees. These facts are narrow-minded because they are absolute. They don't change based on opinions or cultural trends. Similarly, Jesus tells us that the path to life is narrow. He says, “Enter by the narrow gate,” because the way that leads to life is hard, and only a few find it.

Jesus’ words challenge us to remain steadfast in our faith, even when the world pressures us to conform. The truth of the Gospel is exclusive and uncompromising. Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). This statement is as narrow as it gets, and it stands in stark contrast to the broad and easy path that leads to destruction.

Living out this truth means we must often go against the grain. The world may call us narrow-minded, but remember, narrowness in truth is not a flaw. It is the very nature of truth to be precise and unchanging. God’s Word is the ultimate source of truth. When faced with conflicting messages from friends, professors, or culture, ask yourself, “What does God’s Word say?”

Resist the temptation to accept everything the world presents as acceptable. Just because something is popular or widely accepted doesn’t make it true or right. Our standard must always be God’s truth, even when it’s difficult or unpopular.

Hold fast to the narrow way, the truth that Jesus has given you. Let His Word be your guide, your standard, and your source of strength. When the world pressures you to conform, stand firm in the knowledge that you are walking the path that leads to life. Jesus promises that although the way is hard and few find it, it leads to true and eternal life.

Trust in Him, the one who is the way, the truth, and the life. Embrace the narrow path, knowing that it is the way to true freedom and salvation.
