Faith in the Light
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." - John 1:5
Faith isn’t a leap into darkness, it’s a leap into light. God has revealed Himself to us in countless ways, showing His truth and His character. With all He’s done to pave the way for us to believe, trusting in Him today is more like running toward a light that’s always been there. From the beginning, God has been consistent and faithful, shining His light so we can know and trust Him.
Think about it: when you sat down today, you trusted the chair would hold you up without even thinking about it. Why? Because that chair has held countless people over the years. There’s a pattern of trustworthiness in that chair. In the same way, our faith in God grows as we see His faithfulness repeated time and again.
But there was a time when people had to believe without all the evidence we have today. Long before Christ was born, people didn’t have the Bible as we do, or centuries of historical records and archaeological discoveries that confirm the truth of God’s Word.
They didn’t have centuries of stories showing God’s reliability. All they had was God’s voice, and yet they believed, holding on to His promises with a faith that often had no visible proof. They waited for the Messiah in hope, showing us what real faith looks like.
How did they do it? They looked back and remembered God’s faithfulness through every generation, seeing His presence and His power. They looked around, trusting that God was faithful in their present, no matter what the circumstances looked like. And they looked forward, holding onto the promise that God would continue to be faithful, that He would one day send them the Savior He had promised.
This is the essence of faith. It’s trusting that God will do what He said He would. It’s seeing the light He has already revealed and stepping toward it, confident that He will keep every promise He’s made. So today, don’t let faith feel like a leap into the unknown. God has shown you His faithfulness time and again, and He will continue to do so. Step toward the light of His promises, and trust that He will hold you up.
