Hope in the Unexpected
"The LORD is faithful in all his words and gracious in all his actions." - Psalm 145:13
Waiting isn’t easy. It’s often filled with anticipation, sometimes anxiety, and almost always the hope that what we’re waiting for will arrive soon. The Israelites knew this feeling well. They spent generations waiting for the Messiah, expecting a leader who would deliver them a powerful judge, a warrior, a conqueror, a righteous king.
But when Jesus finally arrived, He came not as they expected. God fulfilled His promise in a way that exceeded every expectation, sending His Son to be more than just a warrior or a king. Jesus became all of these things and more, the Savior who would change the world and offer salvation to all.
When God sent Jesus, He kept His promise of hope, but in an unexpected way. Psalm 145:13 reminds us that the Lord is faithful and gracious in all His actions. God’s promises are sure, but His ways of fulfilling them often look different from what we anticipate.
Sometimes, we think we know exactly what God should do. We have a picture of what we want and how it should look. Yet God gently reminds us in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” His ways are always higher, wiser, and better.
Perhaps you’re in a season of waiting right now. Maybe you’re waiting for a breakthrough, for answers to prayers, or for comfort in a time of uncertainty. This Advent season, as we wait for Jesus, we’re also reminded that waiting is often part of our journey. You might be asking, “How am I supposed to wait?” Look to the One who fulfills His promises in ways we could never imagine. Trust that, even though you may not see it now, God is working behind the scenes, arranging things in ways that will bring about His best for you.
Like the Israelites, you may be expecting one thing, yet God may be preparing something far greater. Trust in His faithfulness, lean into His timing, and remember that His ways are always higher than ours. Even in the waiting, you can have hope, because our God is a promise-keeping God who always fulfills His word.
