The Peace Giver
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” - John 14:27
When Jesus came, He didn’t just promise peace, nor did He only embody peace. He actively GIVES us peace, an invitation to live with His assurance every single day. In John 14:27, Jesus tells His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.”
Jesus came so that you could have access to a peace that goes beyond any temporary comfort or worldly security. But what exactly is this peace that Jesus offers?
First, Jesus offers us “peace for eternity.” Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” One day, each of us will step into eternity, and we will either stand justified in God’s eyes or we won’t. This peace for eternity means being seen as righteous before God, no longer in opposition to Him, but fully reconciled. Jesus said it clearly in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Only through Jesus can we find lasting peace with God, a peace that stretches into eternity.
But this gift isn’t just for our future—it’s for today, too. Psalm 29:11 promises, “The LORD gives his people strength; the LORD blesses his people with peace.” This peace is meant to bless us now, offering us comfort, strength, and clarity in the midst of whatever we face. Yet notice the condition here: God gives His peace to His people. If you know Jesus, you have access to a peace the world can’t match. It’s a gift, but like any gift, it only benefits you when you choose to receive and experience it.
Imagine someone gives you the keys to a car—you have access, but unless you get in and drive, those keys won’t take you anywhere. Or, if someone hands you a plane ticket to an incredible destination, you won’t experience the journey unless you actually board the plane. In the same way, God’s peace is available to you, but you need to take hold of it, to trust Him fully, and to let His Spirit fill you with this gift.
Jesus is the Giver of Peace. He offers it freely, both for eternity and for every moment in between. Will you accept His gift of peace?
